Sweater Weather, Anywhere You Are

There’s something magical about sweaters this time of year. Even though Los Angeles doesn’t exactly scream “fall” the way New York City does, every now and then the weather surprises me. A cool breeze settles in, the evenings grow crisp, and suddenly I’m reaching for my favorite oversized knits as if the season has fully arrived.

Lately, I’ve been leaning into pinks and reds—soft pastel hues paired with deeper jewel tones. There’s a romance to that color palette, a balance of warmth and playfulness that feels just right for the in-between days. And while fall in LA might not bring crunchy leaves underfoot, a great sweater has a way of bringing the season to life no matter where you are.

The Sweater That Started It All

Last week, I picked up the loveliest oversized sweater from H&M—a powdery pink knit with drop shoulders and balloon sleeves that make it feel equal parts relaxed and chic. The best part? It was under $25. Proof that you don’t need to splurge to find something cozy, stylish, and versatile.

What I love most about oversized sweaters is their effortless adaptability. Here in LA, I’ve been pairing mine with shorts, creating a balance of cozy-on-top and breezy-on-bottom that feels perfect for days when the sun lingers but the air carries a chill. When I’m back in New York, I can already picture it styled with classic blue jeans or sleek leather pants—outfits that make the sweater’s softness stand out even more.

Why Oversized Sweaters Work Everywhere

The beauty of oversized sweaters lies in their universality. No matter the city, no matter the season’s quirks, they just work. They’re the clothing equivalent of comfort food: familiar, reassuring, and always welcome.

In Los Angeles, they bridge that confusing gap between warm afternoons and cool evenings. In New York, they’re the fall essentials that carry you from crisp mornings in Central Park to evenings tucked into cozy cafés. And in both places, they’re the kind of pieces you’ll reach for again and again—because they just make sense.

Imagining the Moments

I can already envision where my sweater edit will take me this season:

  • Morning walks through the park, wrapped in an oversized knit while the world wakes up around me.
  • Coffee runs on brisk mornings, latte in hand, sweater sleeves pulled over chilly fingers.
  • Lazy weekends at home, the kind where you curl up on the couch with a blanket, your coziest sweater, and a book you’ve been meaning to read for months.

Sweaters invite us to slow down, to enjoy the smaller moments. They’re not just clothes; they’re little reminders to savor the season, wherever you happen to be.

A Little Style Edit: Sweater Weather

While I’ll never give up my love for dresses, fall is the time when sweaters really shine. From cropped knits to dramatic oversized styles, there’s something for every mood. My current favorites include:

  • Chunky cable knits that feel like being wrapped in a blanket.
  • Soft pastels, like blush and lavender, for a gentle take on fall colors.
  • Rich jewel tones, think ruby, emerald, and sapphire, that add depth and elegance.
  • Playful details, like balloon sleeves, slouchy turtlenecks, or cropped cuts that make everyday outfits feel fresh.

It doesn’t take much—just one or two great sweaters—and suddenly your entire wardrobe feels refreshed.

Looking Ahead

We have one more post from LA before heading back to New York, and honestly, I’m ready. As much as I love traveling, nothing compares to being home with our kitties. I miss them more than I expected to (any other pet parents feel the same way?). Sweater season will feel even better once I’m back in NYC, cuddled up with them on the couch.

So here’s to sweaters—the under-$25 finds, the luxe investment pieces, and every knit in between. May they carry us into the season with warmth, comfort, and just the right amount of style.

I hope your weekend was wonderful, and as always, thank you so much for being here and reading along.
